Workshops – Casting of Epoxy Resins

The course summarizes the entire process of casting epoxy resin from the very beginning in the choice of wood and materials to the very end, that is, the maintenance of the produced casting. The graduate of the course should thus have all the necessary information to work and should be able to make a table from epoxy resin, a serving board or create a paperweight.

Topic: The whole process of casting epoxy resin

  • Wood selection and wood penetration
  • Mold - production and its treatment before casting
  • Calculation of epoxy resin consumption, types of resins, how to choose the right one?
  • Pigmentation and coloring of clear epoxy resin
  • Mixing and pouring the epoxy resin into the mold
  • Removing the resin table mold
  • Epoxy table milling
  • Wood and epoxy repair
  • Epoxy resin table sanding
  • Epoxy resin table polishing
  • Epoxy table protection, surface treatments
  • Epoxy resin table maintenance

How is the workshop going?

The capacity of the date will be limited to 10 people. After introducing us as lecturers, we will start with a short presentation of Synpo (maximum 10 minutes, just so you have an idea of where you are, what our background is and what we do. Then we will start going through the whole process of casting epoxy (table, board, etc.)….from from the very beginning when choosing the wood, through the entire process including the choice of a suitable resin, pigmentation, mixing, casting, demolding, processing, grinding, polishing up to surface treatment and protection of the table top... The form of the workshop is chosen in such a way that the participants are divided into 2-3 groups and during the simultaneous interpretation of the theory of the individual steps, we always stop at each step and show ourselves this step in practice (sometimes with examples of failed and successful things). Individual actions are performed by the participants themselves under our interpretation and supervision. We tell ourselves what we are doing pay attention + some tricks that make work easier, we show mistakes and how those mistakes affect the final result, we dispel myths, we explain why certain things happen and how they even happen to avoid, we show various possibilities for achieving the desired goal, we also partially explain chemical principles, how it all works, etc.

During the course:

  • Each group will make a simple and cheap mold in a process that we say the mold will not leak.
  • Each group unmoulds the casting from the previous workshop using a simple procedure.
  • Each group casts a serving board (these are then semi-finished products for the next workshops).
  • We will explain the principles of wood stabilization and completely stabilize one wood during the course.
  • You will penetrate the wood and prepare it for casting.
  • We will perform a rexotermic reaction, so you know what it means, why it happens, how to prevent it and how to behave when it happens.
  • We have prepared a competition for a prize that the winner will take home.
  • We will cast the resin into the gel phase, show the techniques of working with the gel phase and the possibilities that this state offers.
  • We will have a board blank ready for sanding - you mill and sand this blank in the same way as it should be sanded.
  • You will have the opportunity to try and assess the effect of the quality of the sander on the sanding itself. We will tell and point out the most common mistakes when sanding and tell you where you are making a mistake when sanding.
  • For ladies for whom sanding is already boring in the vast majority of cases, we have prepared jewelry semi-finished products that they can sand and polish to a high shine themselves in the meantime - and then they can take the jewelry home with them :-)
  • After sanding, polish the board to a high mirror shine.
  • You will finish the cutting board - we will tell and show the differences in different surface finishes, their pros and cons, their comparison.
  • In the technological break for surface treatment, you can cast epoxy paintings - we will talk about materials, techniques, possibilities, etc.
  • We also expect plenty of questions to be answered as we go along. Duration from 8.30am to approximately 4.30pm to 5.30pm. There will be only one 45-minute lunch break.

When and where the courses are held

Courses are held throughout the year approximately 3-4 times a month. They are usually on Thursdays, sometimes on other days. The venue is directly Synpo Pardubice, where we have our own casting room and we also have many successful and unsuccessful samples to demonstrate mistakes. Sometimes, if we manage to arrange some spaces in some region (including in Slovakia), we are able to list and implement workshops there as well, so if someone could offer a space for about 12 people and 4-6 tables, definitely contact us.

How do I find out about the listed dates?

In order to reserve a place at the workshop, it is necessary to buy a WORKSHOP VOUCHER WITH A YEAR VALIDITY (it can also be given as a gift to someone close to you), where you must state the name of the participant when purchasing. The listed dates are sent preferentially to the owners of vouchers with annual validity, usually 1-2 days before the publication of these dates on our FB page (https://www.facebook.com/epoxio/ )  .I RECOMMEND FOLLOWING) or on the Epoxy and Design group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/epoxyanddesign ). Immediately after the listing, you will be able to choose which of the terms suits you. The voucher is valid for one year, so there will be plenty of time to find a suitable date in the event that none of the listed dates will suit you (if you let us know when choosing the dates), then we will return the money for the voucher.in the event that none of the listed dates will suit you (if you let us know when choosing the dates), then we will return the money for the voucher.
