Exothermic reaction
An exothermic reaction in epoxies is a strong reaction caused by the rapid release of heat as the resin cures. It mostly happens when the maximum thickness of casting layer of the given epoxy is not kept or when the maximum resin casting volume is not kept. It manifests by a sudden increase in temperature (over 100-200 °C), rapid hardening of the resin, yellowing, smoke. During subsequent cooling, the casting may crack due to high stress in the material.
